ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A murder investigation is underway right now in Willacoochee where a 26-year-old woman was found dead Sunday along a trail. Police and even the town's mayor can't remember the last time they've had a murder in the small town of 1,600 people.

Early Sunday morning a dirt path right off Springhead Church Road was not blocked off with crime scene tape and police cars. Daniel Hunkapiller walked down the dirt road in Willacoochee when he found 26-year-old Rosie Gaskins sitting unresponsive in the drivers seat of her car just before noon.

"I stopped to see what was going on," Hunkapiller said. "I bumped on the window and got no reaction. I called the law because I knew something wasn't right."

Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore says investigators are questioning everyone she's been around the last 24-hours including her husband Clarence Gaskins.

"Everything is up in the air right now," Moore said. "They're all big to someone. The death of a fine young woman is a big deal."

Gaskins lived with her mom Mattie and her dad Eugene Courdle. Friends and family showed up at their home in Willacoochee to pay their respects.

"She was fun loving and hard working and she would help anyone who needs help," said her mom Mattie Courdle.

She loved working with cabinets and even remodeled her parents bathroom floor. Gaskins' eight-year-old daughter Olivia shows WALB a favorite shirt her mom gave her. It says "Mommy's little angel."

Investigators continue to collect clues and question suspects. The Atkinson County Coroner sent the body to the crime lab in Macon for an autopsy. We should know more answers surrounding the cause of death Monday. Count on WALB News 10 for more live, local, latebreaking updates on this homicide investigation.
