ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Marathon and half marathon started promptly at seven Saturday morning.

It was 34 degrees at the start line as runners began to pound the pavement, an estimated 1,500 runners from across the country took part in this weekend's races.

Runners weren't the only ones up early, bikers started to snake through the downtown course at 8 a.m. in hopes of qualifying for the road race which begins 9 a.m. Sunday in Lee County.

The morning sporting events were a prelude to the Mardi Gras' Music Street Festival with live bands, food vendors and many other family fun activities, in 200 Block Broad Avenue.
