ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Marathon and half marathon racers will pound the pavement all over town on Saturday.

They'll get a good tour of Albany, and drivers need to be patient and cautious.

The marathon course will snake from the sand dunes on the east side to Doublegate on the west side, making its way through college campuses and picturesque neighborhoods.

Neighbors along the race path weren't worried about the extra foot traffic.

Debbie Richardson and her dog Ginger walked part of marathon route near Kenilworth Drive and Chapman Drive.

"In the past I don't think it's really inconvenienced me," said Richardson.

Hundreds of runners will pass through her neighborhood.

"It's just one day, we have to be flexible," said Richardson.

"The traffic impact is going to be as minimal as possible but the most important thing will be the safety of the runners," said Sgt. William Dowdell, Albany Police Department.

Almost every APD officer will be on duty Saturday.  Last year, there were no arrests at Mardi Gras events.

They hope to have another perfect weekend this year.
