ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Thousands of turtles will race for the gold Saturday afternoon. The Flint Riverquarium will launch cute little rubber turtles down the waterfall steps in four heats.

The top finishers win prizes. There's even a chance for a million dollars.

So far, people have adopted 4,000 turtles. There are 10,000 total, and all will race even if they're not adopted.

"It has been going very well today," said Event Chair Laura Calhoun. "Albany can be a last minute town to sign up for things. They're keeping us hopping today with lots of adoptions which is great."

You can still adopt a turtle online right here. You can also get them in front of the Mardi Gras entrance tomorrow between 12 and 2.

The race starts at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow in front of the Riverquarium steps.
