ROCHELLE, GA (WALB) - In the fall Wilcox County quarterback Nick Marshall led the Patriot football team to its' first ever state championship.

Now the junior star is closing in on another championship. Marshall and the Wilcox County basketball team are three wins away from a state title.

Marshall is a 6'2'' guard and is ranked by many scouts as one of the top juniors in the state. Marshall is also attracting lots of attention from colleges on the football field and says he would like to play both sports in college.

Wilcox County last won a state basketball title in 1968 and head coach George Kennedy believes Marshall can lead the Patriots back to the trophy.

"He's one of the premium shooters I've ever seen out of my 38 years of being in this business and years before that playing. He has a gift from God" said Kennedy.

"They look up to me and they all look up to me in the same way, follow me and do what I do" said Marshall.

Wilcox County will play Aquinas on Friday at Columbus State. Tip off is 5:30. The winner earns a spot in the final four.
