VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - After going unbeaten in the Gulf South Conference eastern division this season, no surprise Valdosta State Lady Blazers head coach Kiley Hill is the coach of the year in the east.

It is the second time Hill has won the award.

The Lady Blazers also place four players on the GSC east division all-conference team.

Leschelle Matthews is a first team selection.

Michelle Thompson, Tamika Booker and Sierra Nixon all make the second team.

The individual honors are nice but the Lady Blazers focus is winning the Gulf South title at the conference tournament this weekend.

Kiley Hill said. "What we've done year after year is we've been able to defend and I think hopefully we can make a few shots and make a championship type run."

The Blazers making it a sweep with VSU head coach Mike Helfer winning coach of the year for the men.

Valdosta State's Tyrone Curnell is an unanimous choice for player of the year in the east division. Curnell is among the league leaders in five categories including scoring at 18 points a game.

Curnell was a first team all conference pick from the east division and senior point guard Ricardo Lewis was a second team pick.

The VSU men open the gulf south conference tournament Friday against Arkansas Monticello.

The Lady Blazers play Christian Brothers on Thursday afternoon at Southaven, Mississippi.
