ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Today marks the first day of tornado season. If you haven't gotten all the items you need in case of an emergency you may want to.

Specialists at Home Depot say it's important to stock on essentials that include flashlights and batteries, a weather radio, tarps and duct tape incase high winds and rain damage your home.

One sales associate says it's also important to have a generator and a spare gas can incase people lose power. He's says it's important store up emergency items early.

"When you get into severe weather we're not always ready for that," noted sales associate Billie Wayne Ammons. "We never really prepare like they do in the Midwest and we never know when they're coming."

Home Depot says it will hold tornado prep classes this month.  The store is supposed to receive tornado ready kits in the next couple weeks.
