MILLEDGEVILLE, GA (WALB) - It had been five straight years to the final four without a state championship for The Deerfield-Windsor Basketball team. Saturday the Knights were determined to win it all for the first time since 2003.
Deerfield-Windsor beat Tattnall square for the third time of the season 56-41 to win state for the first time since 2003.
Senior Michael Matthews led the Knights with 22 points.
"This is the best feeling in the world. we have worked four hard years for this. this season,this summer. we have worked hard for this we deserve it" said Matthews.
"This feels good just to finish it. to come here to get what we came to get"said senior Duane Anderson.
"We have been working three for this. just hard work in the gym every day of our lives for this state championship"said senior Jordan Alexander.
"After the last two years the disappointment we have had here it was nice to see this group that has worked so hard. tonight we got paid"said head coach Gordy Gruhl.
The Knights have won four state championships; 1991, 1997, 2003 and 2010.
