ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Former Westover High assistant coach Mike Martin has had a change of heart.
Martin who earlier this week accepted the Albany High head football job has notified principal Sheila Marshall that he will not take the job.
In a phone interview, Martin says after taking the job his family had further discussions on a very difficult decision.
Martin says he decided to stay in the Savannah area for several reasons.
One is not wanting to move his family prior to his daughter's senior year in high school.
Martin says he will continue to look for a job in the Savannah area after stepping down at Windsor-Forest High School in November.
Martin took the Knights to four straight state playoff appearances but stepped down because of what he believes is a lack of support for football in Savannah since the schools are forced to play up at the five a level.
