AMERICUS - (WTVM) - Laura Gerlach teaches third grade at Sumter County Elementary School.
She's her system's teacher of the year and is now one of ten finalists for the state honor.
"One of the things that's so exciting about being chosen is that I just really have a passion for teaching," said Gerlach. "I love what I do, I never worry about coming to school. I want the message to other teachers to be that you need to love what you do."
Georgia's Teacher of the Year will be announced at the end of March.
