LAKE SEMINOLE, GA - (WALB) –  The first woman to make it to the final round of the Bassmasters Elite championship didn't win the event, but she did make a strong showing.

Bainbridge, Georgia native Pam Martin Wells say the other contestants, all male, welcomed her to the group, and she has great respect for them, and the Bassmaster organization.

Wells, whose primary sponsor is Academy Sports, finished 22nd of 51 pro anglers in the championship. She took 25 pounds of fish.

The champion was Kevin VanDam, who took 51.6 pounds in the event.

VanDam had to play catch-up to Wells, however. In the first two days of the tourney, she was the only contestant to catch her limit.
