ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   Three Albany women and two men are in jail after a man was attacked with a tire iron and a hammer during a robbery attempt.

Investigators say 19-year old Shawn Brown and 19 year old Robert Clay attacked 55-year-old Randy Avery about 4:00 this morning in front of his home on Old Mill Road.

Police say 20-year old Amanda Clay, 23-year old Keri Sanders, and 20-year old Marshay Walker knew Avery and set him up. Brown and Clay are charged with aggravated assault. The three women are charged with being a party to the crime.

"He knew the three females, but did not according to him know the two males who were with them," said Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek. "As we gradually got people rounded up we identified the five people who have all been charged."

Avery refused medical treatment. The suspects are not charged with robbery, because they stopped the attack and ran before attempting to take anything.
