ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A community effort is underway to stop violence in Albany while reaching out to the young people who often find themselves in trouble.

The Stop the violence campaign is organizing a basketball tournament April 15th through 18th. Tuesday, members of all local law enforcement agencies, pastors from around Albany and business leaders came together at Gethsemane Church to discuss the tournament and the Stop the Violence movement.

They have a common goal of ridding the community of crime while giving young people healthy outlets.

Demetrius Love said, "In order for Albany, Georgia to grow, we have to make sure as a community that we band together to stop the violence, but we just cannot stop the violence, we have to provide opportunities for the youth so that they have other options."

Organizers hope at least 50 teams will participate. You can find out more about the tournament by clicking here.
