SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) –A man accused of copper thefts in ten south Georgia counties is behind bars in Worth County.
Joel Conger admitted he stole wiring out of farmers' irrigation pivots for several months before he got caught.
Worth County Sheriff Freddie Tompkins says Conger used to install pivots and knew how to steal the copper wiring from them quickly.
"He said, 'I'll do this Sheriff Tompkiif you get me in a vehicle, I know I'm going show serve time and I don't want when I get ready to get out for somebody to come up with another warrant on me and I have to stay in prison longer,'" explained Tompkins.
Conger is charged with more than 30- counts of theft by taking and more charges could come as the investigation continues.
