ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Will Albany and Dougherty County governments consolidate?

As we wait for the General Assembly to take the next step, young community leaders are making sure they understand the process.

Emerge Albany, a group for young professionals, hosted a consolidation listening session with city attorney Nathan Davis and county attorney Spencer Lee Monday night.

They wanted to learn more about the process to join the various departments under one charter.

Right now only four departments are not consolidated.

"It was really enlightening because we hear a lot about what people say about the various things they do and don't like, but none of that is factual.  All we know right now is that there's just a basic charter," said Bárbara Rivera-Holmes, Emerge Albany

If the General Assembly Okays a consolidation charter and the Justice Department signs off on it, a referendum could go before city and county voters in November.
