ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  A Lee County baby is in critical condition at Children's Hospital in Macon after the baby was found unresponsive early this morning.

The GBI was called to investigate after Sheriff's investigators found 5-month old K'laysha Holmes lying in her 21 year old mother's bed, not breathing. Investigators spent the day talking with the mother trying to find out what happened between last night and this morning that might have caused the otherwise healthy infant to stop breathing. The GBI got their child abuse specialist involved in the case after allegation of neglect were made.

"We have a child abuse specialist who would be called in for situations like this to determine what would cause an otherwise healthy 5 month old baby, to be unresponsive," said GBI-Americus Special Agent Trebor Randle.

Investigators say 21 year old Nakasha Holmes was left in charge of several other family members along with her baby. While officers were at the home investigating, they arrested 18 year old Damion Lavone Moore on charges of disorderly conduct and possession of alcohol and consumption under 21.
