ALBANY, GA (WALB) – City leaders are trying to figure out how to spend more than a million dollars in credits from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia. The money could help Water Gas and Light make repairs or even boost the Albany Gang Unit.
A committee made up of city and WG&L Commissioners heard the needs of those two groups today. Water, Gas, and Light hasn't made needed repairs or bought some new equipment in recent years because of budget constraints. For instance, elevators in the WG&L building are worn out.
Water, Gas and Light Finance Director John Vansant said, "We budgeted for those things for the past few years but we have not been able to make our budget for the past few years and so there has not been the money available to buy them."
The Albany Gang Unit asked for $200,000 for clerical help for the unit and some vehicles.
