Albany - The search for a new Dougherty County Police Chief is down to two candidates. The two finalists are Don Cheeks, a retired Major from the Albany Police Department and Leander Robinson, a current Major with the Atlanta Police.

Cheeks has 22 years of experience and is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Darton College. "I have always wanted to be Police chief," said Cheeks. "The Dougherty County Police Department has excellent personell.I would be honored to join them."

Robinson is the Commander of the Major Crime Unit with the Atlanta Police and has 33 years of law enforcement experience.

County commissioners are expected to choose a new Police Chief within the next two months. Cheeks or Robinson will succeed Bill Kicklighter who retired last year.
