ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Thousands of soldiers who have spent the past year in Afghanistan are heading back to Georgia this month. The 3,200 soldiers of the 48th Infantry Brigade in Afghanistan are expected to begin coming home in February.

The soldiers, many of whom are from north Georgia, will come home in staggered waves through April.

Sergeant Haley Hutcherson is excited her husband is headed back stateside; she's also a member of the Army National Guard, based here in Albany.

"I'm excited, we have a six month old so when she left she just turned seventeen months, so I know he's excited to come back," Sgt. Haley Hutcherson, National Guard.

The troops began a deployment to Afghanistan in February of 2008, where they trained Afghan police and security forces.
