Ice Caused Traffic Fatality

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Bibb County coroner Leon Jones says a Macon woman died early Saturday morning after her car slid on the ice and slammed into a guardrail on Interstate 75.

He says a trauma team pronounced 61-year-old Shirley Phillips dead at 7:37 a.m., about an hour after the crash.

Jones told Macon television station WMAZ that Phillips was driving northbound on I-75 near Newberg Avenue and was on her way  to work at the Medical Center of Central Georgia when her car hit a patch of black ice.

Jones said the car slammed into a guardrail.

Jones says she was wearing her seatbelt.
