THOMAS COUNTY, GA (WALB) – Suspected copper thieves who may have stolen wire and metal in four South Georgia counties were arrested in Thomas County.

62-year old Sidney Williamson of Tallahassee, 40 year old James Borrows of Boston, and Thaddeus Jakubowicz of Donalsonville are charged with copper and motor vehicle thefts in Thomas County and Sylvester.

Sylvester Police charged them with the largest copper theft in Worth County history.

More than $27,000 worth of copper wire was stolen from Reese Building Components on January 27th.

Investigators say they also stole a truck to haul it all away, burned the insulation off, and sold it to an Albany salvage yard. The thefts started when copper prices increased.

"Especially prices for what's being taken, the number one copper wire prices went real high," says Investigator Calvin Cleveland of the Sylvester Police Department. "So that's when the thefts started escalating."

Investigators think the three also pulled copper thefts in Grady and Mitchell Counties.
