Snow pushes GISA region tournaments to Saturday

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -   There will not be many high school basketball games in south Georgia on Friday thanks to the snow.

The GISA 3-AAA and 3-AA region tournaments have pushed back their championship and consolation games to Saturday.

The GISA 3-AAA consolation and championship games have been moved to Southland Academy due to Georgia Southwestern having basketball games at the GSW Convocation Center.

The 3-AAA games start at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Southland with the Southland girls playing Brookwood.   At 3:30 p.m., Southland boys play Calvary. 

The girls championship game between Deerfield-Windsor and Westfield will start at 5:00 p.m. and the boys championship game between Deerfield-Winsdor and Westfield will tip around 6:30 p.m. at the Southland gym.

The region 3-AA tournament will finish on Saturday at Darton with the games starting at 4:00 p.m.

Region 3-A will also wrap up ther tournament starting at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at Fullington Academy in Pinehurst.

The Georgia High School Association has told schools any region basketball game postponed this weekend that has any bearing on the region tournament can be re-scheduled as late as Monday.

All other games that are postponed will not be re-scheduled.

In Albany, Cairo and Monroe will start a doubleheader at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Worth County at Dougherty will start at 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Peach County and Westover will start at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The GHSA has now canceled all area wrestling tournaments due to the forecast of more snow and ice in Georgia on Monday.

The state wrestling tournament will start a day early on February 17th at the Gwinnett Arena.

The GHSA state swimming championship will resume on Tuesday.

In college, Georgia Southwestern's baseball series at West Alabama has been cut to a doublheader scheduled for Sunday.

The Lady Hurricanes softball doubleheader with Francis Marion has been moved to Monday in Americus.

Friday's women's tennis match with Albany State has been moved to Wednesday and Saturday matches with Fort Valley State will be played on Thursday.

Darton College baseball has canceled Friday's games in Marianna, Florida against Chipola and Wallace Community College.

The three teams are still scheduled to play at Darton on Saturday.
