CORDELE, GA (WALB) – With all of the wind around South Georgia Wednesday, you didn't have to go to the ocean to catch a wave.

Waves actually formed on Lake Blackshear. All of the wind - and the cold temperatures - kept the beaches empty. Normally, Georgia Veterans State Park in Cordele is one of the most popular parks in the state. Attendance at the park is down and officials say that part of the blame has to go to nature.

Mike Goodwin, a Park Ranger at the park said, "it seems that every time a weekend comes up, we have messy weather. Either too cold or rainy."

But Goodwin says that there's still plenty of indoor stuff to do at the park, including a museum. And the park is planning several events to draw more visitors, starting with an Easter Egg hunt in April.
