Cook High football coach Mac Thompson died suddenly late Wednesday night at the age of 39.
Cook High principal Jute Wilson says Thompson became ill at school on Wednesday afternoon.
Thompson was taken to Adel Memorial Hospital where died just before midnight.
Mac Thompson was hired at Cook High last year from Calera, Alabama and led the Hornets to the AA state quarterfinals.
Before coming a head coach, Mac Thompson worked as an assistant of Colquitt County head coach Rush Propst when Propst was head coach at Hoover High in Birmingham.
Thompson's death comes nine months after Cook High football player Roy White died during spring practice.
Mac Thompson is survived by wife Regina and four sons.
A memorial service is at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at New Life Baptist Church in Adel and the funeral is Saturday in Calera, Alabama.
