ALBANY, GA (WALB) –An Albany man wants to warn you about telephone scammers who targeted him.
On January 29th, Doyt Brown got his first call from a person claiming to be from Sweepstakes International, telling him he had won one and a half million dollars. They wanted him to pay insurance and tax money up front. The Browns knew it was a scam. They saw the call came from a Jamaican area code. They did a little research and found 90 pages of scam call victims from the Caribbean area codes 876, 284, and 809.
Doyt Brown said "If they ask for money, or they are from any of these 3 area codes, ignore it. Just don't pay attention to it, because it's a scam."
The Browns called Police, but investigators said there's not much they can do since the calls came from outside the country.
