Politicians ride train

March 21, 2003

DAWSON- Southwest Georgia rail operators want to make sure local leaders know the vital role trains play in the region's economy. Friday, they invited elected officials and business leaders from around the state to ride the train. They left Dawson for Georgetown with a stop in Cuthbert.

"That's what today is about, to stop different places, give people opportunity to ride train, and talk about how important trains will be in economic development," Democratic Representative Bob Hanner said.

Passengers enjoyed breakfast on the air conditioned train. The tracks are more frequently used by freight cars, hauling agricultural products such as cotton and peanuts through the various stages of production.
