ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After making it to the National Junior College World Series last season, the Darton College softball team is ready to get back this year and win the school's first national title.

The Darton softball team is ranked eighth in the preseason poll heading into Wednesday's season opener at Andrew College in Cuthbert.

Darton head coach David Dews says the Lady Cavs do have some starters to replace but he likes his combination of returning talent and freshman recruits.

Everyone on the Darton team knows the goal they have for the end of the season but coach Dews says to reach that goal the team is going to have to play it one game at a time against a demanding schedule.

David Dews said "There is a lot of good teams in the state of Georgia. a lot of good teams we are going to play nationally. So, it ought to be a challenging season but I think our kids are up to the challenge."

The Darton College tournament this weekend in Leesburg will be played on Saturday and Sunday due to weather.
