ALBANY, GA (WALB) – South Georgians saved the Quail Unlimited Celebrity Hunt, and now many would like to move the conservation groups national headquarters to Albany.

Organizers say the Celebrity Hunt over the weekend got overwhelming support from the community the night time dinners and auctions sold out and had to turn people away.

There is no final dollar amount yet, but board members say the celebrity hunt turned a profit for Quail Unlimited.

That's good news, after Quail Unlimited came close to shutting down just months before, after accounting discrepancies were found. Now board members are scheduled to discuss moving the national headquarters from Edgefield, South Carolina to the Quail Capital of the World, South Georgia.

"We'd be happy to have it here," said Tommy Gregors, Quail Unlimited Board Member. "It'd be a great opportunity.  I think another opportunity to showcase what we can do here in Albany.  We can support it here."

Another South Georgia hunting event over the weekend was a big economic success.  The United Kennel Club Winter Classic brought thousands of visitors from across the nation for one of coon hound hunting's biggest events.
