A little over two weeks before the season is set to begin South Georgia Waves general manager Gerry McKearney has resigned. McKearney is leaving baseball after eight years to pursue a sales job in Atlanta, his last day with the team will be March 31st.
McKearney turned in his resignation to South Georgia Waves owner David Heller on Monday. He says the possiblity of the Waves relocation to Columbus did not factor into his decision. When the Waves arrived in Albany last March, McKearney was the first man on the job.
The South Georgia Waves open the 2003 season on April the third in Charleston, S.C.
