ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  For the 22nd year, the organization recognized its volunteers.

When the organization started, about 4,600 people volunteered on an annual basis. The number of volunteers has now jumped to more than 25,000.

They come from many backgrounds and ages. Students from Deerfield Windsor emptied out their closets to give to others, and encourage others to do the same.

Student Brynn Sammons said, "I probably would encourage them because, like, they wouldn't really use them and other people might want to because they didn't have that stuff, they're not as fortunate."

"We collected 402 shoes," said student Waverly Wahbeh."we give them to charity."

"It's a thank you for what they do," said Judy Bowles of Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.  "We had over 25,000 volunteers come through our office last year and this is our way of saying Thank you for making our community a better place to live."

Volunteers gave more than 113,000 service hours last year.
