ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – Dougherty county employees took an hour out of their day to benefit their health.

More than 100 of them took a walk downtown to kick off of this year's Dougherty county Hooked on Health Program.

Employees with the Sheriff's office, court system, county commission and other departments walked from the Government center to Turtle park and back. Then they enjoyed Subway sandwiches and water before going back to work.

"With the way the economy is right now individuals are stressed and if you're stressed you're bringing that to work and you're not productive. But the healthier you are as an individual the more productive you are and ideally you'll be able to live a lot longer," said Jawahn Ware, Dougherty County HR Project Manager.

Before the walk 145 employees enrolled in the 12-week program weighed in and took body measurements. They're encouraged to stay active, hold each other accountable, and volunteer in community activities such as the Snicker's Marathon Energy Bar Marathon.
