ALBANY, GA (WALB) –The Albany State University Police Department will host a firearms workshop Saturday to teach gun owners safety and their legal rights.

The number of south Georgians arming themselves and applying for gun carry permits is skyrocketing.

A-S-U's chief wants to help people be responsible gun owners.

Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards and Probate Judge Nancy Stephenson will also take part in the workshop.

Albany State Police Department Chief Roberson Brown said "But if you don't know the law and when you can use a weapon you could be the one indicted. So I want to arm them with information before they arm themselves with a firearm."

The will be Saturday at the ACAD Auditorium on campus from 9 to 1.

It is free and open to anyone.

Guns are not permitted on college campuses, so the Chief reminds everyone not to bring a weapon to the workshop.
