VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -  After coming within two wins of the division two world series last year, Valdosta State baseball coach Greg Guilliams believes his team his hungry to win a regional title this season.

The Blazer baseball team certainly likes their chances to make another regional appearance.

Even though they lost their best hitter and one of their best pitchers in Matt Costello, the Blazers lineup still will be strong with Brandon Decker, Clayton Cain and Jon Koenigsfeld back.

The Blazers also lost another top pitcher to the pros in Brandon Graves but coach Guilliams believes this year's staff is deeper and that could pay big dividends if the Blazers make the postseason.

The coach is counting on that experience to get his team back in the Gulf South and regional tournaments.

Guilliams "I think having that experience is important because when you have guys on your club that have a pretty good understanding of what it takes it certainly helps with the motivation."

The Valdosta State baseball team opens their season at Florida Tech on February first.

First home game is February 5th in a three game series with Saint Leo.
