ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A fire at the Liberty House business office Monday will force the battered women's shelter office to be undergo major repairs.

The shelter was not damaged in the fire, only the business office.  But that building sustained major structural damage to it's floor and electrical lines, and most of the computers and furniture were damaged as well.  Now the Liberty House board has been warned about more state budget cutbacks coming in the near future.

"If money that is allocated to have advocates in counties now has to be allocated to try to get us just functioning, yea that is going to be a problem," said Liberty House Executive Director Silke Deely.

The fire had no effect on the Liberty House shelter, which serves 17 South Georgia counties.  If you would like to help, you can make donations to the Liberty House Fire Relief fund at any SB&T bank.
