AFD teaches arson lessons

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Firefighters from across South Georgia are learning about arson investigations in Albany.

23 firefighters from across South Georgia will spend three days learning about Georgia law and crime scene investigation for fires.

Earlier this week, Albany firefighters held burns in a condemned house, and videotaped them to use in this training.

"It's not that there are more fires out here, it's that training budgets have been cut at the state level," said AFD Investigator Sam Harris. "By being cut, courses have been cut."

As a final test in this three day arson investigation course, the firefighters will go to this burned house and themselves determine how they set the fire.
