ALBANY, GA (WALB) –A beaver dam caused a Northwest Albany street to flood Thursday morning.

Ken Gardens Road was blocked off near the ball park entrance because of a foot of water over the road. A beaver dam in a pipe under Palmyra Road caused a nearby pond to overflow.

Public works crews brought in an excavator to tear out the beaver dam and let the pond drain off.

Otherwise, holding ponds and pumping stations around Albany worked without problem today, but city officials are worried about more heavy rain Sunday because the land is saturated.

Albany Public Works Director Phil Roberson said "You don't have the trees taking up any water, the farmers aren't taking up any water, so it's really the worst time of the year to have this kind of rainfall. Because there is nowhere for the rainfall to go. Everything's full."

Ken Gardens Road reopened about two PM.

The rain is over for now, but more is expected Saturday.
