ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base continues to improve security to make the base a hard target.

If you've been by the base in recent days, you might have noticed new security gates in the perimeter fence at the main entrance.

Security officials don't want to give specifics about the new fence and gates. They'll only say they wanted the ability to lock down that entrance in case of heightened security.

"It's another layer of protection for the installation," said M.C.L.B. Deputy Police Chief Sean Lamonzs. "It's very important to create a final denial barrier. Depending upon the force protection condition, there may be a time when it's necessary to ramp up, if you will."

Those concrete barricades laid out in serpentine patterns in the entrance will stay. The main entrance to the base also has police officers on duty 24 hours a day and a catsclaw security system to flatten the tires of any vehicle that doesn't stop.
