ALBANY, GA (WALB) – It was a frightening morning for a northwest Albany family who awoke to lightning slamming into their home. The strike was so powerful, it knocked a hole in a wall.
It happened around 5 o'clock Thursday morning on Nottingham Way. Albany Firefighters were called out to the scene after smoke filled the house, but there was no fire.
Jennifer Collier was sleeping when the heard the strike hit her house. "It woke us up when we heard it go BOOM! The out smoke detectors started going off."
The strike caused damage to the exterior and interior of the home where it hit a wall and created a gaping hole.
Fire officials believe the strike hit a tree before jumping and hitting the house.
No one was injured.
