Colquitt County, GA (WALB) – A tractor trailer crash shut down State Route 37 in Colquitt County late Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning.

It happened just before 11 o'clock near Ellington-Omega Road. The driver, who was not injured, told authorities his brakes failed while approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Ellington and SR 37. The semi slammed into a ditch before striking a tree.

Georgia DOT crews shut down both lanes for nearly 5 hours until the accident scene was cleared. But as the scene wrapping up, less than a mile away, a second semi ran into a ditch and also had to be removed.

Traffic was diverted to Tillman Road in Berlin. Both lanes of traffic re-opened just before 4 a.m.
