ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Albany Police checked out two Northwest Albany churches that sustained property damage... But they don't think vandals are targeting churches.

Three windows were broken in the old Northwest Library Building on Barnesdale that Sherwood Baptist Church now owns.

Investigators don't they think the vandalism was connected to the church.

The sign in front of Covenant Presbyterian Church on Dawson Road burned early this morning.

Firefighters say it was caused by an electrical short, possibly from a bird's nest or squirrel in the sign.

Pastors say they appreciate the Police watch because the Lord's House isn't immune to thieves or vandals.

Covenant Presbyterian Church Associate Pastor Tim Olds said "It should be. It should be. Yes. There was a time when church doors were always open and unlocked. But those days are not around anymore."

Tuesday several windows in the Salvation Army chapel were broken.

Albany Police say they are keeping a close watch on churches.
