ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Albany city commission recognizes the service of a former commissioner who passed away over the weekend.

Tuesday morning, the commission passed a resolution honoring the late Mary Moss Young-Cummings for her work as an Albany City commissioner and as a member of the General Assembly.

Cummings was a Howard Law School graduate and became only the second black woman to practice law in Albany. The resolution praises her work enforcing equal rights for all and serving as chair of the Association of Black Elected Officials.

Cummings died on Saturday at the age of 66. Her family will be presented the resolution at her funeral service on Wednesday.
