ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The theme for Albany's 2010 King Day Celebration was "Keeping the Faith in the Fight." Churches played an important role in the fight for civil rights. The Albany Movement started at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and Dr. King met with leaders and spoke to capacity crowds there in 1961.

Pastors say churches must continue to work to improve their communities today. Pastor David Wilson from Rhema Word International Ministries said, "It's not just enough to sit back and to come to church on Sunday, but definitely have to get involved in the problems of the world today."

Pastor Wilson says churches need to focus on education and economic empowerment to help pull people out of poverty.
