ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Some Dougherty and Lee County students got an important lesson about the dangers of drugs Monday.

The Dougherty and Lee County Sheriff's offices hosted a 'just say no to drugs' day at the Stardust Skate Center on Ledo Road.

The all-day event gave students something fun and positive to do on their holiday from school. Representatives from both departments talked with students and parents about the danger of gangs and drugs.

"Parents should be talking to kids about, is listen, if somebody comes up to you and wants to talk to you, trying to push some drugs on you, you tell them no, then you come tell me what's going on, because the parents are their number one contact," said Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals.

Parents can then bring the information to the Sheriff's office. Both agencies hope events like today's skate party will help them form a better relationship with students and encourage them to report drugs in schools to resource officers.
