South Georgians discuss race relations

March 17, 2003

Valdosta - South Georgians are working together to move beyond racism.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker was guest speaker Monday at "Moving Beyond Talk: Race in the 21st Century." Tucker recalled issues of racism she's dealt with growing up as a black woman, such as school segregation and inter-racial dating.

"It's so important that we set an example for others and the whole world," said Tucker. "Given what's going on in the Middle East at the moment, we must promote a peaceful, multicultural, multiethnic democracy."

The symposium was sponsored by Valdosta's Project Change and included other speakers and workshops on race relations.
