ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Albany will not get millions of dollars in stimulus money to renovate the rundown Heritage House hotel, so what's next for the structure?

It's long been open and exposed as an eyesore on one of Albany's busiest thoroughfares, Oglethorpe Boulevard. The owners wanted to turn it into low to moderate income and elderly housing with a grant from the federal government. They didn't get that money, though.

Wes Smith said, "I'm sure that a commission discussion will ensue and, of course, we'll have to have contact with him and see if he does, in fact, have some options, otherwise the commission will have to seriously consider moving forward with the demolition."

Tearing the building down could cost more than a million dollars. If the city does the work, a lien will be placed against the property, that must be paid back before it can be sold.
