Flood zone updated

By Karen Cohilas - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – If you own property, don't be surprised if you get a notice in the mail that you're now living in a flood zone.

Flood maps are updated every few years. The new maps in Dougherty County were put in place in September 2009. Some properties were added to flood zones while others were moved out.

"Certain areas of the city and county, the areas of the 100 year flood have changed," said Mary Teter.

If your home is paid for and you're newly drawn into the flood zone, you don't have to go out and get flood insurance unless you take a new loan on your property. Subsequent owners will have to, though.
