ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The great thing about the game of baseball is that is a game for young and old.

The young will get to watch the not so young this weekend when Baconton Charter School hosts their third annual old timers game.

Baconton Charter head coach Bubber Birdsong says former major league great Bernie Carbo highlights another field of retired big league players.

Former Braves Brian Jordan and Mike Mordecai have pledged to attend along with former World Series MVP Ray Knight.

Birdsong says it is a great thrill to see these players on the diamond one more time.

Bubber Birdsong said. "It is always exciting to me because I have got baseball cards on a lot of these guys. I grew up watching these guys and reading about them. Getting a chance to meet them now and to have them come back and speak to my kids and local athletes is big time."

Birdsong says rain or shine Saturday morning Bernie Carbo and Brian Jordan will be speaking at a breakfast at Vision Covenant Church in Baconton..

Weather permitting, the game will start at 1:00 p.m..

Proceeds from the first three games will help build lights at the Baconton Charter baseball field.

The lights will be installed after Saturday's game.
