ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Two major conventions are in the works to be held at the Albany Civic Center this year.

Next month, a convention of Jehovah's Witnesses will be held at the Civic center and plans are being made for another convention to be held here in the fall.

Each time an event is held here, several thousand people attend, pumping lots of money into the economy.

Assistant City Manager Wes Smith said, "It's a major affect in the hotels here in town. Of course, they buy food, get gas, things of that nature, so we're very happy to have them, any sort of kind of convention like that, we will actively pursue, but having the one in the fall and one in the spring, if we can continue with two a year, we'll be very happy with that."

A major convention of Jehovah's Witnesses will also be held in Macon in the summer.
