TIFTON - Tifton Businessman and University System Regent John Hunt is in critical condition after a weekend heart attack. Hunt is in his 60s. He had been in good health. He swung a sledgehammer back in August for the groundbreaking of ABAC's pedestrian mall. He was also the school's graduation speaker in December.
ABAC President Mike Vollmer said, "John has been a friend to 34 public colleges in state. I don't believe another regent spent seven days a week trying to help every institution in the state."
Hunt is the president of South Georgia and Florida Shoney's and Captain D's restaurants. He's also a past president of Tifton's Chamber of Commerce.
Hunt is on life support at Jacksonville Baptist Hospital.
