Valdosta - Some South Georgia mothers and sons have a special date Friday night.

They're headed to Park Avenue United Methodist Church's mother-son luau. About 100 guests attended the event last year, and this year's dance has already sold out with 400 tickets.

"We knew that there were several father-daughter and mother-daughter events around town, but nothing for mothers and sons," said Lydia Murphey, Church Member. "We wanted an opportunity to show our sons what it's like to go on a date."

The luau is for all ages. Tickets have been sold to mothers who are bringing sons as young as one and as old as 60.
